September 16, 1892, at the age of 14, Paul J. Sauer issued the first number of "The Mugwump" in the general store building that had been erected by his father Paul E. Sauer in 1876. In December 1878, Paul E. Sauer was appointed Post Master with the office in this building. At this time the U. S. Postal Department adopted the name "Slades Corners." Thomas Salde was an early settler in this locality. On August 23, 1910, Paul S. Sauer succeeded his father as Post Master. The issue shown is of October 17, 1935.
