Summary

• This surf boat, of the U. S. Coast Guard, is of the self-bailing type and is manned by a crew of eight oarsmen and a commanding officer who acts as steersman. Standing at the bow of the boat is surfman John Nesgaard. Seated in the boat from left to right are: Emmet Gossen, Joseph Stowe, Orris Anderson. This boat was in the 1938 annual Coast Guard boat race in Chicago. This picture was taken along the route of the July Fourth parade of 1938.
