1980 photo of all that remains of Peter Myers' once imposing residence, built around 1871 in the Italianate style at Milwaukee Street and Atwood Avenue, after it burned down in 1944. (Other photo captions give a different address: "Its commanding position on the hill at Milton, East Street and Milwaukee, made it one of the best known landmarks of Janesville for years.") Peter Myers was the owner of the Myers Hotel, built in 1859. He died on March 13, 1888. The steps have been fixed and in 2005 exist leading to a two story building at the top of the hill. Various businesses have occupied this site, including Gunness Art Gallery, and Fair Lady Bridal Shoppe
