Jason Lothrop was a Baptist minister and member of the Western Emigration Company, for which he drafted the articles of association. He landed in Pike from Hannibal, New York, on the schooner Detroit, August 15, 1835. He was the first minister to locate in Pike. He preached the first Protestant sermon in Pike on the first Sunday in November, 1836. Besides being a minister, he was a school teacher, surveyor, printer and book binder. He was born in Massachusetts in 1794 and died in Kenosha on September 2, 1870.
