This picture was taken by Nick Otto on the first day the old Post Office began to be moved west on January 18, 1934. This was after it was raised with jack screws, wood blocking and steel railroad rails to the elevation it would have when placed on its new foundation on the west side of the Civic Center. In this position, it was moved slowly west by the steel wire cables seen in the immediate foreground. A track of many steel rails was laid on the top of the wood blocking. This view is looking east.
