Multiple fruits are derived from a stalk of many flowers - from an inflorescence. The flowers in pineapple are axillary, as they form in the axils of leaves attached to the stalk. The resulting fruit, which is technically a berry, remains associated with each leaf which can be discerned on the outside of the pineapple.
