Manitowoc County Courthouse on the northwest corner of South Eighth and Hancock Streets in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The Courthouse occupies the west side of the South Eighth Street block between Hancock and Washington streets. The street which angles across the foreground in this photograph is Hancock, which runs east and west. The pillared side of the courthouse is the south facade, facing Hancock. Beyond the courthouse is the First Reformed Church, located on the northeast corner of Hancock and South Ninth Streets. In addition to housing the usual county offices, the courthouse provided space for the local Selective Service Board and the Rationing Board at times during the World War II years. This photo shows the courthouse with a glass dome which was replaced in 1950 with stainless steel after a devastating windstorm.
