The Lincoln Monument is a gift to Kenosha, made on May 23, 1909, by Orla Calkins, who came to Kenosha about 1861. He died in Kenosha on May 23, 1909, having been stricken suddenly. The monument was unveiled on the day Mr. Calkins was buried; the funeral procession, as it left St. Matthew's Church, stopped in front of the monument as it was being unveiled in Library Park. Mr. Calkins was always interested in the civic life of Kenosha and held many public offices.
