This photograph is from the L. M. Thiers collection and is the property of the Kenosha County Historical Society. Julius Henry Kimball was one of the earliest pioneer settlers, having moved to Southport in 1837. He was a farmer at one time, but later turned his attention to printing, and was employed by the Southport Telegraph as a typesetter and printer. In 1843, together with C. Sholes, he started the Milwaukee Democrat. Mr. Kimball started the Bank of Northern Illinois and the Kenosha County Bank, and was an extensive dealer in real estate. He died in Kenosha in 1903.
