The Kiel Furniture Co factory sits in the background of a park-like setting in the mid 1920’s. The firm was established in 1892 as the Kiel Manufacturing Co, to take advantage of the abundance of good lumber in the area. The name changed to Kiel Furniture Company in 1907. The 1920s were a time of prosperity for the company. A.A. Laun, brother of one of the founders, brought out new products such as the Kiel Radio Table, an occasional table with a radio and speaker mounted inside. When the depression threatened disaster, Laun and several investors over the firm's assets and formed the A.A. Laun Company. Other investors included then mayor Adolph Hingiss and Dr. D. F. Nauth
