Summary
The Carmen Chorus, directed by Sara Ellen Jones, was established in January 1939 as a women's choir sponsored by the School of Vocational and Adult Education in Two Rivers. The Meistersinger Guild, directed by William B. Jones, was a men's choir, also sponsored by the School of Vocational and Adult Education in Two Rivers. Both groups performed at many events throughout the Manitowoc County area during the World War II years. This program, a single sheet folded to 5.5" x 8.5", is from a joint concert presented at Washington High School in Two Rivers on May 13, 1942. An article published in the Manitowoc Herald-Times the next day called the concert "undoubtedly one of the outstanding events in the county's record of musical achievements," and reported that the song "Stouthearted Men," dedicated to Meisterguild members in the armed service, was one of the numbers most enjoyed. The names of 16 Meisterguild singers serving in the armed forces are listed on the back page of the program.
