Bolton Priory was an Augustinian monk monastery church established in 1154. In the 14th century the church was extensively remodeled in the late Decorated Gothic style. After the Dissolution in 1539 the western half of the church was preserved as an Anglican parish church. The remainder fell into ruins with some preservation of the Decorated bar tracery in the ruined portion. The stained glass in the parish church was inserted in the mid 19th century.
