Photo of a monk in front of the steps leading to the entrance to the main church at the St. Panteleimon Monastery. The main church (catholicon) was built between 1812-1821. The St. Paneteleimon Monastery was founded around the 11th century on a different site higher on Mount Athos. The current monastery was built mostly in the 18th and 19th centuries. The monastery traditionally belongs to Russian monks and is also known as Rossiko (Russian).
