Description from the Elvehjem bulletin/annual report 1986–87:
"Drawn from an unusually comprehensive private collection and circulated by Smith Kramer Art Connections, this exhibition of drawings, watercolors and collages presented a cross section of the work of seventy-five significant American artists active during the last hundred years. The diversity of these artists' responses to the possibilities offered by paper, for freedom of expression, spontaneity, precision and color, highlighted a century of American art. The exhibition was made possible with funds provided by the Humanistic Foundation Committee (UW–Madison)." [p. 85]
