In der Heimat, in der Heimat, da gibts ein Wiedersehn!
Date
ca. 1914-ca. 1918
Summary
"Farewell," the deepest sentiment of lovers at separation, was one of the most popular subjects on postcards sent home from the war. In a variety of styles -- in paintings and photographs -- at house doors, at garden gates, and at city gates, millions of Germans bade their farewells. And for millions, those "Wiedersehens" would not be kept.
