This icon depicts the Transfiguration of Christ on Mt. Tabor. To Christ's right side, Moses holds open the tablets of the Ten Commandments. The Prophet Elijah (Elias) is located on the left. Three apostles, St. Peter, St. John, and St. James, watch in bewilderment (in the bottom half of the image). The icon is located at the Xenophontos monastery on Mt. Athos. The monastery was founded in 998 by the Blessed Xenophon. Most buildings originally date to the constructions during the 11th century under the Abbot Symeon with the help of Emperor Nikephoros III (1078-1081) but have undergone renovations since.
