Nicole Robertson, daughter of Stanley Robertson of Aberdeen, learned this up-beat song of seduction and abandonment (probably to be classified under Roud no. 899) from her family tradition. Here she sings it during a ceilidh hosted by John Niles in Auchtermuchty, Fife, in 1986. Her father is present and sings along softly.
A recording of Nicole Robertson singing this song at Glasgow City Hall in 1992 can be heard on track 17 of the CD 'Aly Bain and Young Champions', Springthyme Records CD SPRCD 1032 (1992). There it is noted that 'While only 14 years old she won the prestigious Women's Singing Trophy at the TMSA's Keith Festival.'
Tobar an Dualchais includes just one recording of this song, a version sung by Jessie MacDonald for the collector Peter Hall in 1968 (track ID 99140).
