The USAID well drilling rig begins drilling a well in a village in Houa Khong Province. The well will provide a source of clean water for the village residents and newly arrived refugees. In the photograph, a papaya tree is in the foreground by the rig and pineapple gardens are to the far left. The dwelling next to the rig has walls made of woven bamboo mats and is covered with metal roofing. The four empty petrol drums in front of the house are used for storing water from the rains during the rainy season.
