The Bab Zuwayla entrance to Old Cairo was built in 1092 A.D. as the southern gateway in fortifications surrounding the city. It is one of three Fatimid gates that still stand and is surrounded by the activities of a lively traditional bazaar that has thrived since the Middle Ages.
