Silver compact in an octagon shape with a map of India engraved on the lid. The sun and its rays frame the map and tiny rubies identify Bombay, Delhi, Ceylon and Karachi, while Calcutta is identified with the largest ruby. An inscription on back reads, "To Mother, On Motherʼs Day, Love and Kisses, Harold." The framed mirror is stamped, "silver." 3" diameter. This compact was purchased in India in 1996 by the collector. Ceylon, a British colony, was given its independence in 1947 and, when it became a republic in 1972, changed its name to Sri Lanka.
