Description from the Elvehjem bulletin/annual report 1991–93: "During the 1960s and 1970s when minimalism and conceptualism were developing, the relationship between artists and critics was unusually close. For the artist Patrick Ireland, the role was exceptionally close, since he was also a critic writing under the name of Brian O'Doherty for Artforum and the New York Times. This exhibition, the first comprehensive overview of Ireland's work from 1961 to 1992, included sculptures, drawings, objects, and documentary materials. This exhibition was organized by Russell Panczenko, director of the Elvehjem Museum and supported, in part, by an Institute of Museum Services (IMS) grant." [p. 193]
