A brecciated bed in massive chert which was called the basal quartzite (white) phase of the Palms formation by Irving. Most of it is massive and brownish to pure white in color. Along bedding planes there are fine and coarse brecciated zones which vary from an inch to three feet in thickness. The three foot bed is at the top of the slope down to the river.
