Belle Stewart was both an extraordinary singer of traditional songs and an outstanding storyteller. Here she tells a story called "The Shearer of Glenshee" and talks about its background. The recording was made at a ceilidh hosted by John Niles and his team of researchers at a rented house in St. Andrews, Fife, in August 1988.
A transcription of this tale as told by Belle Stewart on another occasion is included in 'The King o the Black Art and Other Folk Tales', ed. Sheila Douglas (Aberdeen University Press, 1987), pp. 36-38.
