Martyn Bennett (1971-2005) plays the Scottish small pipes at the Auchtermuchty Festival, 1986, at an event sponsored by the Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland. The Canadian-born son of the folklorist Margaret Bennett (author of the 1992 book 'Scottish Customs from the Cradle to the Grave'), Martyn was one of the most talented Scottish musicians of his generation. His death from cancer at the age of 33 was widely lamented.
Martyn Bennett (1971-2005) came to be widely admired as a piper, violinist, composer, and producer. His performances can be heard on half a dozen CDs. His untimely death in 2005 was a source of deep regret. He was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame in 2012.
