Part of a curvilinear frieze broken at both ends and below. The figured panel is bordered at the top by a garland of overlapping lanceolate leaves between two plain fillets. The relief is deeply cut with some components, including the reins and the legs of the horse completely released from the stone behind. The First Meditation. Siddhārtha, haloed and in princely garb, sits on a raised platform meditating with his groom Chandaka and horse Kan̥t̥haka waiting nearby. On the left of the panel is the subject of his meditation, the suffering caused to those engaged in agriculture, the farmer and his oxen, as well as to the insects etc. disturbed by the plowing.
