Discussion of the intersections of Jewish, lesbian, and feminist identity from her childhood to adult life. Conversation about her time at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the 1990’s, and specifically the courses and experience in the Gender and Women’s Studies Department. Further conversation about how feminist and Gender and Women’s Studies analysis has shaped her career and future, as well as the future of feminism in the U.S. and beyond. Rabbi Laurie Zimmerman attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the 1990s, where she majored in History but took many Gender and Women’s Studies courses. Then she attended and was ordained by the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2003. She now serves as the rabbi at Shaarei Shamayin in Madison, WI. She is also currently writing a curriculum to help children and teens think critically about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
