View of the skete (monastic dependency) of Agiou Prodromou (the Forerunner, John the Baptist). The skete was bought from Greeks by two Romanian monks in 1857, Nektarios and Niphon, and it remains a Romanian establishment to this day. The skete officially belongs to the Great Lavra monastery. The kyriakon (main church or Sunday church) was built in 1866 and dedicated to St. John the Baptist. The skete contains an impressive library with 130 manuscripts and 5,000 printed books. It also contains many relics and a miracle-working icon of the Theotokos (Virgin Mary).
