OTHER INFORMATION: Ways - T0724; W.W. Cargill of the Sawyer Austin Lumber Company used the Ellen as a part-time rafter and also for pleasure. The Ellen was named for Mrs. W.W. Cargill. A steel hull was put under her when she was purchased by the U.S. Engineering Department. Also while under their ownership, the cabin was air conditioned and an elevator installed for the expected arrival of President Franklin D. Roosevelt; for some reason the trip was canceled. The Ellen was sunk 3 mile south of Brownsville on October 8, 1918 and was raised
