An aerial view of the Yao (Iu Mien) village of Houei Lai (PC 3982) and its two-room school in Houa Khong Province which in 1972 had 48 students (41 first graders, 7 second graders). The grounds in front of the school were also used as a landing site for the USAID Bell Jet Ranger helicopter which delivered school supplies periodically. The roof of the school was made of bamboo shingles. A bamboo fence surrounded the school grounds to keep animals from coming in and out of the school since there were no doors on its classrooms. The teacher's house is in the lower right hand corner, inside the fenced compound.
