The collection includes 134 letters and Abschriften (handwritten copies of official documents) from the Jakob and Franziska Sternberger document collection at the Max Kade Institute. They span a period from the early 1840s to 1930s. Most letters are in German, written in the old German script (Kurrent). They are available here with transcriptions into modern Germany type, and—in a few cases—English translations. The correspondence mainly includes letters written to Jakob Sternberger by family members and friends before and after his emigration in 1850 from the Kingdom of Bohemia (Austrian Empire), as well as correspondence with his adult children later in life.
