St. John's Maroon Church, Freetown

  • This church was one of the first churches built in the settlement of Freetown. It was built for a group called the Maroons, original settlers who had rebelled against slavery in Jamaica. In the 1980s, Freetown had 70 Christian churches and meeting houses in addition to many mosques and centers for indigenous religions.
