The Reverend Edward Roffe was an early missionary in Laos for the Christian Missionary Alliance. He arrived in Luang Prabang in the late 1920s and after World War II lived in Vientiane. He authored the first English language grammar of the Lao language, which was published in the United States in 1956 and used the Luang Prabang dialect.
