Sheila Douglas of Scone, Perthshire, sings one of the songs in her large repertory, "Kelvin Hall," at a ceilidh that she hosted at her house in Scone in July, 1984. The tape recording was turned on too late to catch the first words of the song. The place referred to in the song's title is a parkland on the banks of the River Kelvin in the West End of Glasgow.
Sheila Douglas was the author or editor of a number of books on Scottish folksong and balladry. She also edited collections of Scottish folktales that she recorded from oral sources, chiefly from Scottish Travellers living in the region of Perthshire.
A brief biographical portrait of Douglas is included in 'The Sang's the Thing: Scottish Folk, Scottish History', ed. Sheila Douglas (Edinburgh, 1992), pp. 47-54.
