On November 2, 1909, at Paducah, Kentucky, she collided with the gas launch Hagg No. 2, sinking the launch and throwing its two occupants into the river. Both men were rescued, and a December 28, 1909 investigation of the accident cleared the packet's officers of any blame; launch was a total loss, $400. On December 5, 1911, the City of Savannah struck a snag and sank at Elkins Landing in Dog Tooth Bend, at Buffalo Island on the Mississippi River, about 22 miles above Cairo, Illinois.
