This is a song, also known as "The Calton Weaver" (Roud no. 883; Greig-Duncan no. 603) that Williamson sang spontaneously in the midst of a ceilidh held at his home at Kincraigie Farm Cottage, Fife, in 1984. As he explained on another occasion, the song "tells a story that a man was so much in love with whisky that he left everything, just became a member of the Whisky Clan." Calton, a former borough that is assimilated into the City of Glasgow, was once famous for its weaving industries.
