Interior view of the narthex in the catholicon at Docheiariou Monastery; looking east toward the sanctuary and iconostasis. Two large icons depicting the Theotokos (Virgin Mary) on the left and Christ on the right are visible on either side of the doorway. The monastery of Docheiariou was founded in the second half of the 10th century but was relocated to the current location in the first half of the 11th century. The catholicon dates back to the 16th century. Some parts of the building were painted in 1568 by the Cretan painter Tzortzis. The wooden iconostasis seen in the background dates to 1783.
