Small food stalls or stands are often set up in front of larger businesses in Lao towns. This photo well illustrates the ways in which three different cultures merged in trade relationships in the mid-twentieth in Luang Prabang. Occupying the street in front of the store is a Lao woman who has set up her food stand, probably without cost or permission. In front of the Chinese shop is a Hmong man who has just made his purchase of fabric.
