Das Strafgericht in Belgien : niedergelegte Strasse, aus deren Häusen hinterrücks auf unsere Truppen geschossen wurde
Date
1915
Summary
The results of Germany's push through "Poor little Belgium" may be seen on Card 52. The text which appears above the demolished buildings explains Germany's "punishing justice in Belgium" as retaliation for resistance. The cost of Belgium's heroic self defense was high, and the price was paid in both its lifeblood and its cultural patrimony. "Wherever Germany extends her sway," remarked Nietzsche, "she ruins culture."
