Mr. Vong, Sub-district Chief (Tasseng), stands on the porch of his house in the Nyaheun village of Lassassine (XB 7364, L-130) in Attapu Province wearing the traditional Nyaheun loincloth known in local vernacular as a "katiao". The loincloth is elaborate, woven black and red threads with extensive fringe around the edges. The elaborateness indicates his status as a leader in his ethnic group. He also wears a string of white and blue beads, interspersed with brass trinkets, usually worn by Nyaheun men of high status. The walls and ceiling of his house show clearly how bamboo is woven for housing.
