This photo depicts the inner courtyard at the Koutloumousiou Monastery. The Koutloumousiou Monastery was founded in the 10th or 11th century. Many buildings were destroyed in a fire in 1497. Thereafter it was rebuilt with the help of Danubian princes and various Greek officials. The monastery suffered further fires in 1856 and 1870 in which many buildings were again destroyed and rebuilt. The main catholicon was built in 1540 and still features frescos from around that time (though most were overpainted later in 1744).
