The two Norman arches separate the tower section from the nave and the original chancel. In the distance is the later Early English chancel. Both arches are perfect semicircles. The distance between the cushion capitals is equal to the height of the columns giving pleasing proportions. A Purbeck marble shaft on the sides of both arches provides strong contrast with the limestone. The arches have two orders of zigzag and an outer order of foliage.
