The tower is an accurate 1861-6 reproduction after the original tower fell in 1861. The tower beneath the spire and parapet was originally built in the Early English style after a great 1187 fire. Each side has a pair of twin lancet openings into the belfry with a pierced plate tracery quatrefoil. Below the parapet is a corbel table of pointed arches. The belfry openings have four orders on the outer arches and two on the smaller lancets. The arch moldings vary from flat to roll with deep grooves between. The capitals have stiff-leaf and are on detached shafts with square abaci.
