Most people who visit the Isle of Colonsay do so via the Calydonian-MacBrayne ferry service that runs somewhat infrequently between Islay to the south and Oban to the north, touching down at Colonsay along the way. The ride is one that, on a clear day, offers superb views of the Inner Hebrides and the adjoining mainland. Here the ferry has just left the port village of Scalasaig. The landing is a potentially dodgy one, for the boat must reverse direction within the confined waters of the bay. The Paps of Jura can be seen in the distance, along with a white bank of ocean fog.
