Performer: Sikhwelesine Ngcobo, a Zulu woman, about 40 years old; she also performed 2S-953, 954, 956, 957, 959, 1036, 1037, 1041, 1051, 1054, 1058, 1061, 1066, 1073, 1078, 1087, 1088, 1090, 1094, 1098, 1100, 1101, 1102, 1105, 1108, 1111, 1115
Place: Outside, in the kraal, 3 pm
Audience: Twenty-five women, ten men, fifty children, all Zulu
Notes: This is the third of three groups of scattered homes in this vicinity, a group of about 150 houses divided emphatically by deep dongas. The first of these (2S-866-891, 901-938) is the more that I most carefully studied in 1968; the second (2S-892-900, 939-951) was also studied in 1968. This third group (that includes Asilita Philisiwe Khumalo and Sikhwelesine Ngcobo) was scarcely studied at all in 1968. These three neighborhoods are all side by side (though the homes that make up each of the neighborhoods are widely scattered-these are not villages) on the floor of a valley surrounded by mountains, yet the division (naturally created by the dongas) seems to be a strong one. All are Buthelezi. See note at 2S-970.
