The USAID Ban Houei Sai staff along with Royal Lao Government rural development field workers jointly trekked from Muang Meung (PC 5292, LS-93) to Na Kong (PC 2860) in Houa Khong Province, a distance of 42 kilometers over a three-day period, on a road and agriculture survey. Lahu and Yao (Iu Mien) villages were visited along the way. Here, two men, both wearing berets, alternate as they pound rice in the Black Lahu (Lahu Na) village of Chao Sing (PC 4074). Hollowed out tree stumps and wood pestles, as seen here, are used for pounding rice in these villages. Behind them is a village house with a thatch roof.
