Villagers provide self-help labor, laying the water pipe to the IVS demonstration gardens in the Laven village of Houei Kong (L-56, XB 6473) in Attapu Province. The first IVS house there stands in the background, constructed in 1964 by USAID public works technicians. IVS volunteers moved into their new home in April of that year from their temporary residence in the village of Nong E-oi (XB 6572) in the province, where they'd initially lived since 1963.
