Betsy Whyte (1919-1988), born in Perthshire, was one of a family of Travellers who spent their winters in basic housing and took to the road in summers, camping out in familiar places and finding seasonal employment. Born Betsy Townsley, she was married at an early age to Bryce Whyte, from a different family of Travellers. They lived for much of their lives in the town of Montrose, on the Angus coast. This photo was taken in Auchtermuchty, Fife, during an interview and storytelling session.
