Description
This collection of digitized historical documents from the FBI Headquarters Library comprises the entire contents of the Primary Source Media microfilm product entitled "National Security and the FBI Surveillance of Enemy Aliens." Its contents provides insights into the recent history of the surveillance of noncitizens and national security during World War II and the early postwar period. It includes the Custodial Detention Index (CDI) which was a list of suspects and potential subversives. While the program targeted primarily Japanese, Italian, and German citizens in the U.S., it also included some native-born American citizens and also includes some early cold war records related to the Soviet Union. This collection is part of Archives Unbound.
