An important component of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is the use of skills training to help manage the extreme beliefs, actions, and attitudes that form the criteria for borderline personality disorder. In this video, Linehan teaches patients the skills of DBT, including mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotional regulation. The sessions portray a team of therapists working through the range of problems and frustrations that arise in treatment, and viewers are thus brought into the team milieu and shown the efficacy of this approach. A short interview with Dr. Allen Frances, DSM-IV Task Force chair, concludes the video.
