To help out a friend, Varsha (Asha Parekh) poses as a hired hand for Anil Chaudhury (Vinod Khanna), a playboy hoping to inherit his mother's fortune. To dupe his mother in believing that he has finished the high life, he asks Varsha to pose as his fiancee. Anil's mother learns of the deception, disenherits Anil and decides that Varsha will be her heir. But Varsha soon realizes that she is in love with Ajit (Rajesh Khanna), a well-respected social worker by everyone except the Chaudhury family.
